-36 Error when trying to compact or duplicate database

G

Garland

I am moving to a new mac and tried to copy my db over...before and
after compacting.

I can not compact/copy/stuff/etc.

I always get a -36 error?

Has anyone experience this...solution?

Thanks,

Scott

This error is not listed on the Error Page
<http://www.entourage.mvps.org/error/page.html>, but often errors close in
number have a similar solution. Error -34 means that the disk is full - In
other words, there is insufficient disk space to complete an operation. Try
deleting data and defrag your hard drive.

I suspect your problems stuffing have something to do with not having
contiguous space.

Remember when you rebuild your database it makes a duplicate. You can delete
those and free up space. Check your Identities folder for the old files.

Old files are named:

Entourage 2004: Old Database"

Entourage X: "Old Database Cache" and "Old Database"

Entourage 2001: "Old Database Cache", "Old Database", and "Old Messages." In
addition, Database (Rebuild) Cache is retained.

This sounds like disk level corruption - if the finder can't copy it, then
the problem lies in the disk, not in entourage;s data structure.
