4 GB limit and removing attachments

A friend had/has a continual problem with hitting the 4 GB database limit in
Entourage. She spent several hours one afternoon manually archiving
attachments, removing them from the messages and finally exporting several
folders to .mbox format to further reduce her database size.

Imagine her surprise when she had to re-import one of those .mbox folders
and the information "Attachment <name> was removed on xx/xx/xx" was not
preserved when it was originally exported.

Anyway, we modified Paul Berkowitz's "Print Message w-Attach" script to add
this info to the message content and it works great. The issue we are now
having is that Entourage doesn't update the message file size to reflect the
attachment having been removed _if_ we have the script remove the attachment
(it works fine if we manually remove the attachment in Entourage). As far as
I can tell it's a cosmetic issue since if I forward the message it's size is
accurate. Is there a way to force Entourage to update this info?

ciao,
Caleb

One way to keep the size down on a database is to use an outgoing rule to
remove attachments. Usually most attachments you send you already have a
copy.

Outgoing Rule Tab: Create Rule

Remove Attachment

Office 2004 does not have this limit. I highly recommend your friend
upgrade. Not only would it solve her size problem, but it offers other
improvements and new features.

Hey, thanks for the tip! It works! I didn't even know that little feature
was there. For sure, I am now going to import everything from OSX Mail to
Entourage.

Cheers,
