Hi folks!

Can someone explain the following?

Document 1: 14 pages long, 5824 words, text only, 69 kb in size.

Document 1: only 4 pages long, only 897 words, text only, *1.1 megs in size*

Both documents are school papers so they are formatted identically.

Question: How can I go about finding out what is causing the bloating in the
second document so I can cut it back down to a reasonable size?

Thanks in advance to all you Sherlock Holmes' out there who will no doubt
come back to me "elementary, my dear Carmen...!" :)

Are they both saved as docx format or is the larger one doc?

They are both Word 97-2003 docs.

Try copying all but the last paragraph mark of the larger document into a
new document and save that. Does that make it smaller?
