A97 bug: database corruption

After non-specified user's activity we've got "Record(s) can't be read; no
read permissions on 'MsysModules2'" error. I went to MS KB,
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/170696 ... but the database I'm talking
about was not secured.

User has a backup copy of the database but I'd like to know if there's any
chance to restore the data from the corrupted database.

Did you try Repair and Compact? In the database window, Tools | Database
Utilities | Compact and Repair.

If that doesn't work, use Google Groups to search this newsgroup's archive
and the archive of the USENET newsgroup comp.databases.ms-access for
"jetcomp".

1) Repair and Compact cannot be executed since I can't open the database.
2) Jetcomp.exe (with various settings): Error compacting database.

If that doesn't work, use Google Groups to search this newsgroup's
archive and the archive of the USENET newsgroup
comp.databases.ms-access for "jetcomp".

Er, since it's a Microsoft utility, wouldn't it make more sense to
search support.microsoft.com?

Peter Miller is very good at recovering data and doesn't charge
anything if he can't recover it.

If Microsoft's webpage had a better search engine, that would be the case.
Even a lot of Microsoft employees use Google Groups to search for newsgroup
posts (though maybe we shouldn't tell their bosses).

But, David, you're probably correct -- there's a good chance that jetcomp
has been moved around the Microsoft site several times since some of those
posts linked to it.

I've never found the advanced search problematic.

I use google.com/microsoft.html for microsoft-specific searches, but
it returns results from more than just microsoft.com sites.

I missed that you said Google Groups. Why would someone search
Google Groups for this? Why not just use Google to search the web if
you don't like the search engine for support.microsoft.com (which
I've never had any problems using).
