access labels reports

Have label designed with small control shewing ID#. I want this to show
grey in printout.
Have put grey in using properties - Back Color or formatting - infill. Done
it before putting in source and after source. Shews grey in Design and in
Preview but will not print the color.
At a loss. Am I doing something stupid?
