Access to a GAL on 5.5 server

Darrin Pertschi

I got Entourage X (10.1.4) under OS 10.3.1 to access my corporate
Exchange account just fine. I can send and receive mail. The Exchange
server my account is on, is version 5.5. Is it possible for me to gain
access to the corporate Global Address Book?
I can't. I suspect we need active directory, LDAP, and a newer Exchange
server version. Cany anyone help clear this up for me? A large OSX
rollout may hinge on me figuring this out.
Thanks,
Darrin

Exchange 5.5 or earlier WILL NOT WORK for any of the new ExUp functionality.
You will need to upgrade Exchange.

Thanks very much for the reply. I actually did come across the MVP
Entourage Help Page yesterday. It's a great resource, something I
expect to Reference often, thanks. Can you tell me what the 'ExUp'
functionality is? I
saw that mentioned, but don't know what it refers to.

Interestingly though, by the end of the day, I DID get Entourage to see
Our GAL. It's not very user friendly and I can't use the Check Name
while addressing to look up on the GAL.

Considering your reply, does this make any sense; My IMAP account is
working, and I can send and receive fine. Using the Check Names
button while composing returned a LDAP server error. Similarly, if I go
to Directory Services under Tools, select my account and try to search,
same LDAP server error.

Now, with the Accounts window open, if I click on the Directory Service
tab, select New, enter our LDAP server IP address and name it, I can
select that new entry when in the Directory Services window and search
for a name, and it DOES pulls results from our GAL.

One other question, if you don't mind. With Entourage X configured
properly in a 2000/2003 Exchange environment with Active Directory;
does Entourage still NOT allow for browsing a GAL?

Thanks,

It's just shorthand for "Exchange functionality of Entourage 10.1.4". "ExUp"
was the codename for testing 10.1.4, Diane probably just forgot she was
speaking to people who didn't know the term.

Yes you can set up IMAP/SMTP with Exchange 5.5. and sometimes you can set up
limited access to the Global address Book via separate LDAP (then accessible
from Directory Services) - it depends on the Exchange configuration, So it's
not right to say the "Exchange DOES NOT WORK with Exchange 5.5": what
doesn't work is synchronization of contacts and calendar.
Now, with the Accounts window open, if I click on the Directory Service

You'll have to wait for someone who can test this to tell you, sorry.

I can tell you right now. Even with Exchange 2003, the result should be
the same. THere is no GAL support per se in Entourage. The applciation
simply uses the LDAP functions on the server. It can query it, but you
can't brose the GAL.

Exup is short for exchange update.

I'll have to leave the other questions to those that actually use exchange.
There are only a couple of MVPs that use exchange.
