This is a truly weird problem that I have not been able to figure out yet.
I have several Excel files which have refreshable external datasets that come
from Access databases. Sometimes when I refresh them, they refresh
correctly, BUT the link is destroyed! There is no fix except to set up the
External Link again. If I even knew the cause, I might be able to just work
around it. Does anybody have any ideas about this one?
I'm using Excel 2003 and Access 2003 and running Windows XP Professional.
What makes this problem particularly difficult to diagnose is that it
occurs inconsistently. I can't easily reproduce it, however one way in which
it does occur is that if I save the Excel file just before refreshing, that
usually kills it. (Bizarre, I know!)
My instinct tells me that the issue is due to the fact that my files and
my databases were both originally programmed in 97 and have been both
translated up to 2000 and then to 2003. Producing new ones in the new
applications is NOT practical.
