accessing info in .rge files

when i left my last job i archived my entourage mail contents in an
..rge file. i'm now trying to access that information at home, but can't
get entourage to recognize the file. how can i do this?

also, i'm using entourage X on a mac. for some reason "import from an
entourage archive" is not on my list of import options (probably my
problem).

any suggestions?

The reason is that Entourage X does not have archiving. You'll have noticed
you can't export to an archive either.

So, the simple answer is to upgrade this copy of Office v. X to 2004.

However, you can look inside the .rge, which is nothing but an OS X
"package" or bundle. Control-click (right-click) on the .rge file in the
Finder and select 'Show Package Contents". Then open the Contents folder
that appears. You should find all sorts of subfolders. Copy or move them out
the Contents folder to your desktop or other Finder folder. Inside one
you'll find .mbox files. These can be dragged into Entourage where they'll
become message folders. .vcf files become contacts, .ics files become
calendar events, tasks or notes. There may be some file types which don't
import into X - if you had any projects, for example, that you exported from
2004, but you should be fine with most.
