Accessing PST files in Entourage

Dave

I realise that this topic might have been covered in the past so please
accept my apologies in advance.

I have purchased an Intel Mac mini which I intend to use Entourage on
but having tried the Test Drive version of it which is included in the
Mac Mini box I have discovered that I am unable to access Office XP
2003 PST files. This is disappointing as I have almost 10 yrs of mails
which I need access to.

Does anyone know if it is possible to move messages into Entourage
without the facility of an Exchange Server? I am a small home based
business user without any server facilities.

Many thanks and kind regards,

Dave.

I'm afraid the only applications that can read PST files are Exchange
(running in the windows environment) and a utility called the PST Import
Tool, but this can only read PST files from Outlook Mac 2001.

You really need to be able to hook up to an exchange server, unfortunately.

Many thanks for oyour response Barry,

I don't suppose there is any sort of 'public' Exchange Server facility
which can be used on a temporary basis to move PST files?

Cheers,

Dave.

Hi Barry,

Further to my last reply would it be feasible to set up a temporary
Exchange Server on my local network at home?

Regards,

Dave.

Certainly it is possible, but do you have the installation disks and EULAs
available for Exchange Server?

Try this...

Go to Office 2003 outlook and create a 97-2002 pst file. Move the mail
into that folder. Get a mac that has outlook 2001. You can then
import the mail from the 97-2002 pst into that. Then use the pst
import tool to move the files from Outlook for Mac 2001 to Entourage.

The last thing you want to do is setup exchange 2000 or 2003 obn your
home network, setup Active Directory and the service accounts.

Getting Exchange server legally for something like this is easy - there's
always a 120 day eval available.

The harder part for most home users is having a windows 2003 server with an
Active Directory environment "laying around" at home.. You can also get a
2003 server eval but .. You'd have to create an AD domain with all that
entails, in order to install exch 2003..
