Accessing S/MIME properties

I need to access the PR_MESSAGE_CLASS property of a signed, encrypted
message in my drafts folder. However, when I read this property using
Extended Mapi, it always returns 'IPM.Note', instead of 'IPM.Note.SMIME',
which is what it should be.

Is there any way I can access this property?
