Account setup issues

F

Frank

I have had a horrible time trying to set up my email account. I can't
even connect. I keep trying to verify my account but it keeps saying
"Logon failure: unknown user name or bad password" (-17900 ) but i
KNOW that my email address and my password are both right. I have
tried several times. Any ideas?

Here is the server information.

incoming pop.mail.yahoo.com

outgoing smtp.mail.yahoo.com

Thanks,
Frank

Hi Frank,

can you *send* e-mails through that account? My guess is that you activated
one or two security options during the setup of the account which are not
supported by the Yahoo server. Go to Tools>Accounts and double-click your
Yahoo account. In the "Receiving Mail" section, click on the field that says
"Click here for advanced receiving option", and in the new window, make sure
that none of the options are checked.

One final comment: is this a paid-for Yahoo Plus subscription? It is no
longer possible for users of the free Yahoo US e-mail service to access
their accounts via an e-mail client; to do that, you will need to upgrade to
Yahoo Plus.

Hi Michel,

I am also having a problem with sending emails through Entourage. I
have a yahoo plus account and when I first set up Entourage everything
was working fine. Then a few days later without making any changes I
began receiving error messages when I try to send out mail. They are
timeout messages. I still recieve mail just fine. I have checked the
settings for my outgoing mail and found that they appear to be set
correctly. If I go directly to my yahoo account I can send messages
no problem but just can not send from Entourage.

Any help would be greatly appreciated as I must answer an average of
80 emails a day and send out an additional 20 plus.

Thanks,

Shane Dauzat

Hey Michel, thanks for the reply. My email is a free email account,
so i bet that is what is wrong. Do any free email accounts work with
Entourage?

Hi Shane,

this might be an entirely different issue. Could you please post the error
message you are getting? And please include the number of the error as well.

Hi Frank,

yes, that's the answer, then. US-based Yahoo accounts are no longer
accessible via POP unless you upgrade to Yahoo Plus, which costs $20 a year,
I believe. And yes, there are many free e-mail providers out there, like
Gmail, for instance. If you do a Google search, you'll certainly find
hundreds of them; just make sure they actually offer POP3 support. If you
like Yahoo, you could even get a non-US Yahoo account, such as Yahoo UK,
which still allows POP access.

Hi Michel,

The error message I receive is as follows: An operation on the server
timed out. The server may be down, overloaded, or there may be too
much net traffic. Error Code 3259.

There are four other people in my office that use Outlook Express and
they dont have any problems. So I dont think its my internet
connection.

Thanks,

Shane Dauzat

Hi Shane,

sorry, I can't really help you on this one, as I don't know anything about
error 3259, and it isn't listed on the Entourage Help Page, either. Just a
couple of guesses: has anything changed in your computer setup, such as a
different firewall, or a new router? Also, are there any messages in your
outbox that you are trying to send? If yes, do they have large attachments
that might cause the connection to drop?

Maybe someone else can chime in and give you a clear answer on this.

Hi Michel,

Nothing has changed in my computer setup, and I have tried sending
just one message with no attachments and still the same error code.
Apparently now all my co-workers that use yahoo are having the same
problems with their POP3 accounts. They all use Outlook on PC's and I
use Entourage on a Mac Book Pro. So maybe its Yahoo. Anyway, I
appreciate the time you took to answer my questions and would greatly
appreciate input from anyone who has an answer.

Thanks,

Shane Dauzat
