activation over internet should support a proxy

C

Chris Moulding

I'm trying to activate my trial version of visio over the internet. The
activation wizard apparently only works with a direct internet connection
(i.e. it claims there is no internet connection when, in fact, there is). I
am unable to activate because the company I work for restricts access to the
internet via a proxy.

The activation wizard should either use the same proxy used by internet
explorer or allow me to provide a seperate one.

sounds good, but...

1) the phone option is greyed out (implying that it can not be done)
2) online is preferred by me, and recommended by microsoft

oh, and I haven't found the required phone number yet.

If you have SP2 for xp you can try this command.

proxycfg -p address of proxyserver:port

This works to force windows updates through the proxy. I am not sure
if it will work in your situation but it is worth a try.

Thanks for the info.

Darn. My proxy does require authentication.

Well, it looks pretty. Something tells me that my boss won't consider
upgrading to 2003 based just on the appearance of the visio main window.

I guess I'm going to have to continue using the ever-crashing 2002 version.
