Activities very,very slow to appear

Linked activities eg Notes, very,very slow to appear in Activities section of
Contacts
Activities take minutes to appear and it is not consistent.I have checked
contacts properties.Should I give up and instead use the Notes box in the
General section of Contacts to log info.
