Adding cells with text and numbers

I want to sum a column that contains both numbers and text. To be mor
specific I have a cell that has for instance "customer to pay 70
dollars" I want the total of 700 to show at the bottom and add an
other cells with numbers in to it. WordPerfect office uses the su
formula however excel does not recognize the values contained in th
text. If anyone has a solution please inform me...

You could format the cell(s) with a custom format:
"customer to pay " 0 " dollars"

Then you just key in the amount and the cell will be treated as a number.
It will be displayed as:
customer to pay 700 dollars
