Address book contacts dont match E-mail !!!

Hi, I am a new Mac Entourage user (OS X) and have a bizarre problem
that I just dont know how has happened!

My contact/address book contains around 150 contacts, but the E-mail
addresses for these contacts has become 'mixed up' - ie the E-mail
addresses are all still present, but it looks like the E-mails have
randomly associated themselves with different contacts

If I double click a contact, it also shows the wrong E-mail address....

I have a PDA which I use to sync (and the PDA does have a correct
version) - could it have become corrupted somehow due to the sync
process??

I have also tried a 'resync' but the Mac still shows the wrong info..

If there is no way to fix, do you think I should delete all the
contacts and then re-download from PDA?

Lastly, if I want to BACKUP my E-mail (ie all folders/E-mails under the
main tree) can I simply drag/drop onto a Windows 2000 Server??

Many thanks, and sorry for the dump questions!

It is possibly an early sign of mild database corruption.

Office vX:
Hold down the option key when starting Entourage and take the first option
('typical rebuild'). If this doesn¹t resolve the problems, then try an
ŒAdvanced Rebuild¹.

Office 2004:
You still call the rebuilder by holding down Option key at launch, but it
now brings up a separate app "Database Utility" (which could be launched by
double-clicking of you wish) that lives in the Office subfolder.

First of all, if you have any Office apps open, a dialog comes up that
offers to quit them.

Then you get a window with a list of your identities to select from, and
four options:

1) It has a new feature "Verify database integrity" option: this should
reduce unnecessary rebuilding. Apparently it's quite sensitive. And see 4)
below.

2) "Compact the database". (Like X's "Typical rebuild").

3) Rebuild the database. (Like X's "Advanced Rebuild")

4) "Set database preferences". Actually there's only one pref: you can turn
on "Verify database in background "which means "run automatically" and let
you know if your database needs rebuilding.

It is possibly an early sign of mild database corruption.

This time it's pretty clearly a sign of rather more serious database
corruption. It's of the type that a Compact (X: Typical) just _might_ fix
it, but probably a Rebuild (X: Advanced) will be necessary.

This describes part of the problem that I'm also having (Entourage 2004
v11.2.1), but in addition to the email mis-match, it looks like many of
my contacts have arbitrarily merged with each other . I tried the
database utility and it did not detect any database corruption, but I
ran the compress and re-build anyways, but the contacts are still a
mess.

Any thoughts on how I can fix this?

Thanks!
