Since a recent either OS or Office update, I've had trouble keeping my
Entourage Contacts, Address Book Contacts, and .Mac Contacts synced.
While attempting to correct the problem, I've managed to lose all
contacts.
I have my files backed up, but need to know what file contains the
Entourage Contacts so I can try and restore them. Can anyone help me?
Hi David!
Your Contacts are stored in your Entourage identity's database typically
found in "~/Documents/Microsoft User Data/Office 2004 Identities/Main
Identity/Database" where " ~ " is your home folder.
To copy your contacts from your backup identity to your current identity
do the following:
1. Rename the "Main Identity" folder from your backup to something
you'll recognize such as "Main Identity Backup". Move this into the
"Office 2004 Identities" folder mentioned above.
You should see both "Main Identity" and "Main Identity Backup" in the
same folder.
2. In Entourage select Entourage --> Switch Identity... to switch out of
your current identity.
3. Select the "Main Identity Backup" and open it. Be sure to hold the
Shift key down to prevent your schedules from running and downloading
any new mail into this backup identity.
4. As quickly as you can, select Entourage --> work Offline so that all
schedules for downloading are disabled.
5. Then go into your contacts and export them to an archive file or to a
text file.
6. When done exporting select Entourage --> Switch Identity... again to
return to your most current identity.
7. Select File --> Import... to bring in your contacts from the file you
just exported.
