Address book issue

Marcelo Rossetti

Hello all and thanks if you can help.

Does anyone else have this issue?

Using Entourage 9.0.1 for Mac

Whenever I begin a new email and start to type the recipients name a list of
other names show up in alphabetical order. This is fine except that names
and addresses of people I never heard of also appear. When I open my
address book, these unfamiliar names are nowhere to be found so I can't even
delete them. How do these names get there, how do I stop it from happening
again and how do I get rid of them? Please help. Thanks a million.

That preference does not exist in Entourage 2001, Matt (which Marcelo said
he was using). You can get names off the list by making a contact for that
address, then giving it the Junk category or (maybe) deleting it again. But
that would be silly - unless there's a special reason why you don't want
that particular address (perhaps it's a non-operating old address of someone
who has a newer one, for example). In 2001, there are _always_ 200 names on
that list. If you get rid of any, more take their place. You're much better
off just being patient for about 3-4 weeks. The list is weighted by
frequency and newness. After a few weeks, most of the names and addresses
are of regular, recent correspondents. It's actually a great idea, saving
you lots of time. Try not to feel "invaded" or paranoid, and you'll discover
it for yourself. Still, enough people did feel invaded and paranoid that
they did introduce ways of removing names, clearing all names, and - in 2004
- getting rid of the MRU (Most Recently Used) list. So you can look forward
to upgrading to 2004 one of these days.
