Address Book--mac 10.3--Entourage slow to open from Mail

Lately when I try to open the Address Book it takes a good 15-35
seconds. And even once the window changes it takes a while to load
names, etc. Seems like its reached its limit for info. Anyone know
about this--any solution other than creating new identities? There's
that option to "compress" but i don't exactly know ot trust that.

Considering moving to iMail

Try and change the sort order to 'by name'.

How many contacts do you have?

the problem was that it just hung--to move from Mail view to Address
Book was taking forever to open so "sort order" wasn't even an option.
Sometimes screen glitches, where scroll bar from previous window
won't disappear.

I think it has to do with the size of the filing cabinet, but I'm
nervous about what it means to compress it or creating a new identity

Only about 800--interestingly though this morning it's behaving
fine--must of been the threat of moving to iMail but any info for
future is very welcome

800 is not so many - I have well over 2,000 without seeing th eproblems you
have.

Try a rebuild of the database. Hold down the option key when starting
entourage until you see the rebuild screen, then follow the instructions.
