Address book view from active directory?

M

Mark N.

We're experimenting with Entourage 2004 and are a little confused. We
currently run Outlook 2001 for Mac and are used to it simply pulling the
users and distribution groups from the active directory, but with Entourage,
we can't find a simple address book view that shows the entire list. Does
it even do this?

Strange thing is that if we start to type a couple of letters of the alias,
it pulls up the address - even for distribution groups. But if a user
doesn't know the alias, they can't send an e-mail to the distribution group.

What's going on here?

Thanks,
Mark

Entourage cannot browse the Global Address List. You can search it, however,
but choosing Directory Services from the Tools menu.

Just a little addition: you'll need LDAP to be enabled on the server.

Okay, I'm looking at my server and to be honest (embarrassingly so), I don't
know if LDAP is enabled? Where can I look?

Thanks,
Mark

:-\ no idea.... I don't have an Exchange server I can play with to take
a look at that...
You can always try to telnet the LDAP port to see if it is open, that'd
be the first step ;-)) (unless an alternate port is used)

Hi

And what if LDAP isn¹t enabled i.e. I can view the corporate address book
fine from Outlook, but not from Entourage?

No LDAP=no query in the global address list!
Outlook doesn't use LDAP, it pulls everything directly from MAPI (which
Entourage can't do).
