Help, help, help ... I have just accidently deleted 50% of my address
book!! Is there any way to retreive these back from the computer?
They are not all written down on paper. thank you ever so much for
someone's time on this one.

No, they are permanently deleted.
I would suggets you to keep a backup of your identity and save it somewhere
esle.
