Addresses in an Entourage shared Project

H

Henry

I am trying to share a project between two networked computers that
contains address and calendar info. The calendar info comes across with
no trouble, but the addresses don't. I've tried sharing from either
computers address data with no luck.

My example:
1. I have a Personal Calendar and Info file in Entourage2004 on my lap
top. I have a business calendar and addresses on the desktop (which is
the server).
2. I share the two sets of data (publish the two projects, one from
each computer) to the server (as it's a local drive to my desktop).
There are .rge files created on the share location (Shared
drive/Microsoft User Data) I then subscribe to my personal calendar
from the desktop, as an example.
3. I can see calendar info, but no contacts. Same way on the lap top- I
see the shared business calendar, but no contacts.

Is there anything I'm doing to affect the contacts? I can see them set
as projects where they were created but not where they're shared. Does
this make sense? Could they not have gotten moved for some reason??

I wish I had some experience in sharing to give you a quick answer but I
don't. The only two ideas that come to mind are:

1. Are the relevant contacts in the address book given a 'project' label and
do they show up in the "Contacts" tab of the project?
2. Help indicates that sharing of addresses will not work if the addresses
are in groups.

Let us know if you find an answer!

Thanks, but the answers to your questions are:
Yes, the relevant (shared) contacts show up in Contacts with addresses
and do have a project label for the project I'd like to share them to
(actually, its shared to another computer and identity, if that makes a
difference).

No, the contacts I'm trying to share are not members of groups as far
as I can see. I have not set up any groups at all due to that warning.
There are categories set up however. I wish I could export one for you
and send it but I cannot do this as I don't think this email handles
'attachments'.

The only other thing I can think of is mentioned on the Microsoft Knowledge
base:

"When you create a project, you must first share the project, and then the
individual project items can be shared or not shared."

Check to see if you have set Contacts as "Shared" for the "Shared" project.

Good luck.

Yep. Shared the project when it was created and after wards designated
pre-existing addresses into that category (some that weren't in a
category already). I wonder if each item then has be shared or if all
items can be set to be shared 'automagically' when dropped into a
shared category. I think there is an option to do this. Do you know if
this works as it seems to indicate? I tried a number of different ways,
all with no result, even though messages appeared that said it was
sharing the data.

You have to have all the contacts listed in the "Contacts" tab of the
project. Just setting a contact to a project category is not enough. I trust
you have done this step?

On the computer sharing the project (I used the 'wizard' where you
select to share this project, the options to add future items, etc.)
all the contacts appear. On the computer subscribing to the project,
the contacts don't. Is there another way to 'share' these items other
that share and subscribe scenario?

On the first computer, make sure that all the contacts you want are in the
project (in the Address Book you can do this in the Projects column). It
sounds like you've done that already.

In the Project, go to the Contacts tab, and you should see them all there.
Click one contact there, press cmd-A to select all. Then click the Share
button, and they should all get added to the shared project on the server.

Now they should show up on the other computers too.
