Addresses in Groups

I have been using Outlook for a long time and like the ability to
compress my contact catagories into groups (i.e. if I have 5 Contact
Catagories and 10 contacts in each, I can set it so that I only see the
Catagory Group name w/a + sign. When I want to see all in that group,
I just hit the +. Can I do the same in Entourage? How?

Thanks

No, you can't. You can sort the Address Book by Category by clicking on the
Category column, but you can't collapse them.

You could, however, make an email group for each category: after sorting by
category, shift-click the top and bottom contact of a category lot to select
them, then click "Add Group" button o make a new group with those members.
Give the group the same name as the category (and might as well assign the
category to the group too). When you've done this for all categories, you'll
now have a fair-sized collection of groups. You can now do one of two
things:

1) Sort the Address Nook by Contact Type (the skinny column towards the left
with the blob icons). That will put all the groups at the top or bottom of
the Address Nook. Now you can browse just among the groups, meaning little
or no scrolling. Double-click any group to open it up (like expanding).
You'll see only name and email addresses there, but you can then
double-click any contact member to open the contact booklet and view all the
indo. It's one more step than in Outlook but will get you there.

2) Or you could make a new Custom View for :

Name: All Groups
Item Type: ˆ Contact (only)

Criterion:
Is a Group (right at the bottom of the popup list)

You can just go to this View and browse the groups, then do the same as 1)
to open a group and a contact from there.
