After emptying trash database is still same size?

Is there a way to compact the database? I deleted my sent items and
everything in the trash. Before doing so, I copied it all to a folder on
my desktop to back it up and it was around 74 mb. But after emptying the
trash and closing Entourage, I checked the size of my database and it
does not seem to be any smaller. It should be 74 mb smaller.

Thanks.

Hold down the option key when starting entourage, until you see the database
rebuild screen.

Select the first option on the rebuilds. Depending on your version of
entourage, it may be called 'compact', or 'typical rebuild'.

This releases all the unused space in the database ans shrinks it down in
size.

Yes. To learn what it is for your version of Entourage, choose Help >
Entourage Help (or whatever it says) and search on "compact database".
Note, however, that the trash and your sent items may not be the only
things in your database, and indeed deleting them may make only a tiny
dent in the size even after compacting, depending what else is in there.
