After installing, arial font displays some symbols wrong

Ok, here's the situation.

I have w98se, installed office xp, everything worked fine,
got the office update and now the Arial font is displaying
certain symbols wrong. This is only after installing
office xp that I have had this problem and I have had
office xp installed previously and this has not happened.
I have tried restoring old Arial fonts to fix it but the
same problem occurs. A few examples:

Semi-colon is shown as Pi, at sign is shown as plus/minus,
forward slash is shown as divide etc.

If anyone has encountered this problem before or knows how
to fix it please let me know, either on here or by e-mail.
