After reopening my PowerPoint file, my pictures are black

How about a little more information in the message area of your reply. Like the
version of PowerPoint, type of music file, and how you are inserting them.

I am using PowerPoint 2003 for Windows XP. I inserted pictures by clicking
Insert==>Pictures==>From File. The pictures I inserted were .tif files. I
did animation on the pictures and everything was perfect. The next morning
when I opened the document, the pictures were black with the animation still
attached. I've played with contrast, brightness, and background color but
none of that has helped.

Have you installed the latest Updates for 2003. A lot of these issues were
cleared up with the installation of SP1

Have you applied SP-1 for Office 2003? If not, go to Help/Check for Updates
and let SP-1 install.

The pictures I inserted were .tif files.

TIF files tend to be big, presumably this could cause problems. If nothing
else works, open those pictures in an image editing program and save them as
PNG (or JPG) files, which cause less problems normally. Unfortunately you
will have to re-apply the animation then. (Shyam's Add-In Animation Carbon
could help you copying them to the new picture quickly:

Kind regards,
Ute
