Alert sounds in Entourage 2008

Under Preferences-->Notification-->Sounds I have all the alert sounds (welcome, new mail, sent mail, etc.) "checked" but I ONLY hear the sounds when Entourage is started. That is to say, if I sent mail or get new mail after Entourage is already running, there is no alter sound.

I am using Mac OS X.5.2 on a MacBook Pro and (obviously) I know my speakers work.

Anyone know if a fix?

This is a known issue with no current fix. We know that an Office 12.0.1
update is scheduled for release around March 11 but we don't know if it
will address this problem.

I have the same problem. Only started when I upgraded to the latest "Word".

Hope there's a fix soon. That's a feature I liked.
