All data and accounts vanished

I had Entourage running for 30 min without touching the notebook and when
coming back all data had vanished and all email accounts were gone.

Data recovery did not bring back anything.

What happened and what to do to retrieve thousands of emails, contacts and
calendar entries?

First, try choosing 'Switch Identity' from the entourage menu and see if
your original identity shows up there.

If not, you need to search for a quite large file called "Database", and put
the files back nto the right place in the "Microsoft User Data" folder.

Possible reasons for the data just disappearing in this way are either disk
level corruption or an anti-virus programme quarantining the whole database
because it found an infected email in there.

Thanks.
But the only database files on the computer are the actual database which is
the empty one.

In the event that everything had been deleted for whatever obscure reason,
how to recover such deleted database? It seems not to be in the trash.

Only other options are what I stated previously - either it has been
quarantined by an anti-virus programme, or disk corruption has deleted it.

In the first case, the AV programme should be capable of restoring it (and
marking the file as 'not to be scanned' in future).

In the second case, a utility like DiskWarrior _may_ recover the file.
