all emails have same sent date

When I opened entourage today, all my emails in all of my folders show
a sent date of 01/05/2009, with different times. Any ideas why?

If I forward, the (presumably) correct date shows up in the forwarded
header.

Are you sure you're looking at "Sent" date and not "Received" date. For POP
accounts, the Received date is the date and time that Entourage downloaded
the message from the POP server. Check the column header in the message
list.

Nope. They're the 'sent' date column. I just checked one of my
folders and the column header 'Sent' has files ranging in date from
01/05/2009 9:27 AM to 01/05/2009 5:57 AM. If you double click to open
the emails, the header in the former is dated 10/05/2006 9:27 AM and
the latter is dated 02/12/2009 5:57 AM.

Drag a few messages to the desktop for testing. Create a new Identity in
Entourage and drag those messages in to test. You might try downloading a
few messages as well. Be sure to set "leave on server" for the test. If the
problem goes away this indicates database corruption. I've never seen this
as a symptom but strange things can result from database corruption.

Make a duplicate in the Finder first as additional backup. A rebuild does
make a duplicate, but sometimes in the process the original and backup get
merged resulting in total disaster. It's rare but it happens.

Normally, when testing problems in Entourage you can use these steps to help
determine where the problem is located.

1) you can eliminate your Identity by creating a new Identity in Entourage
and see if you experience the same problem.

2) if a new Identity still exhibits the same issues, then create a new User
in System Preferences and test Entourage there. If the problem is in your
User's account, then log out/in with Shift key down to disable any startup
items. Test. If the problem still exists, it's most likely a preference file
that's corrupt. See these pages for help:

3) If the problems still exist in the new User, it's a problem with your
base OS files. If running the Apple combo does not fix, then you might need
to do an "Archive & Install".
