All Entourage Categories Lost?

N

Nelon, DeWayne A.

I recently rebuilt/compacted my database and now all of my category
assignments are lost. The categories still ³exist² but they are not
assigned to anything. So all of my email, calendar entries, and contacts
have a category of ³none². This is somewhat problematic as I have 2K+
contacts and months or calendar entries that I will now have to reassign.
Any ideas why this happened or is it part of the intent when doing a rebuild?

Same thing here. I really HATE that. Rebuilding the database destroys
Exchange category attributions since it is not stored onthe Excahnge
server and since the process forces Entourage to re-download everything.
I made the hard decision to store everythign "on my computer" and
abandon Exchange calendar and address book. Really sad!!!

Ouch. That is a problem for me. I had no idea this would occur. I was
simply cleaning up my hard disk in preparation for a backup and performed
this task as part of that exercise. I had rebuilt the database several
times over the last couple of years without any meaningful impact. Guess I
should have read the fine print.

It wasn't a problem before 11.2. The new version brought some drastic
improvements to Exchange support and calendars and address books are now
separated between the local (on my computer) and remote (Exchange) ones.
The downside of this is the risk of losing categories every time you
rebuild the database (personally, I couldn't care less about having the
calendars and address book separated and I really really wish they could
be merged again - even as an option).
