Always rebuilding...

Every week or so (at least every two weeks) with my dad's new MacBook
Pro I've been having to rebuild the entourage database. Usually it
will start off with him getting some 4362 or 4363 errors when sending
some attachments and will eventually spread into corrupting emails. I
then have to rebuild but then I usually lose a significant amount of
untouched emails along with the actually corrupted ones. He's become
so fed up with the problem that he's been wishing that he just stuck
with Windows, as Outlook Express never had any issues at all.

What are some suggestions that you guys have to limit the amount of
rebuilds that you need to perform, other than getting Boot Camp? Thanks

The errors 4362 and 4363 indicate database corruption, but I'm suspicious
that you can rebuild and it later becomes corrupt.

Try deleting this preference file in your User's --> Library Preferences:

com.microsoft.OfficeNotifications.plist

Other options to check:

1. Bad RAM.

2. Being low on disk space. To check your disk space, use the Activity
Monitor. Click on Disk Usage in the bottom menu bar and select the volume
where you have Office installed. You can also use Disk Utility to see
detailed information about a disk or volume. To learn more, open Disk
Utility in the /Applications/Utilities folder and refer to Disk Utility
Help.

I would suggest that you add a rule to delete attachments from Entourage
after sending. If he's sending a lot of attachments he could be filling up
his drive with multiple copies. If his drive is getting fragmented this
could be causing his Entourage database to have problems as it is too
fragmented to read.

See this rule:

If you need to keep a record of where the original attachment is located use
one of these scripts:

Friendlier Claris It!

Save Attachments

Let me know if this helps.

If you are always rebuilding the Database, then the Database is not
repairing all the files, the best thing to do is to export all your
data to a Entourage archive and create a new identity and import your
entourage archive in the new identity, this way you are starting with
a brand new idenity and a new database file.
