Am I doing this wrong?

I apologize if I'm not using the right protocol here, but I am brand new to
news servers and fairly new to Mac. I keep checking for a response to my
earlier e-mail question but haven't seen one. I carefully read all the
responses that seemed even remotely connected and haven't seen the answer to
my question.
I frequently need to send e-mails to groups of people, but Entourage won't
let me use the lists I create. Am I just doing something wrong, or is it a
bug? I'd appreciate whatever help you can give me.
Thanks!

Subject: Group messages error

I'm using Mac OS 10.3.7 and Entourage 11.1.0. I can't use the group lists
in my address book to send e-mails. The error message reads:
Need RCPT TO<name@domain>
Any suggestions?
Thanks!

Nancy, your protocol is just fine. There is nothing inherently wrong in the
group list feature of Entourage, so I have to assume you are doing something
wrong (no offence intended). I assume you built the group by typing in the
e-mail addresses directly or by pointing to entries in your address book.
To use the group, you just type in the group name in the To: field of a new
e-mail.

Two possible errors can arise here. 1) some entry has an invalid address
(i.e., the address is not of the form [email protected] or edu or whatever).
Unfortunately, Entourage gives you an error but doesn't tell you which
address in your list is in error. A pain if you list is very long! 2) the
list is too long and your ISP rejects the mail. The max number of entries
that is acceptable is dependent on your ISP. If it is too long, it must be
broken into shorter lists (or use Paul Berkowitz's Split Recipients script)

I hope this is somewhat helpful.
