am pm gone missing in Calendar: bug

The am and pm buttons have disappeared from my Calendar events. Times can now
be set within a 12-hour frame (not 24 hours). Events now appear simply as
"4.30" with nothing to indicate whether they are in the morning or the
afternoon, and no means of changing them.

The buttons are also missing from the preferences panel.

I am using Office 2004 and recently upgraded to OS 10.4.3 from OS
10.3.something.

I've tried restarting, but no joy. Any ideas?

I've had the same problem. Perhaps it is related to System Preferences >
International > Formats > Customize?
