"An error occurred while launching"

Entourage won't launch, I get the following message:

An error occurred while launching. The "Entourage Temp" folder could not be
found. It is likely that you have a file with the same name or an alias that
doesn't point to a folder.

I've tried reinstalling Entourage - same message before and after.

Sorry, I left out that my version is Entourage X -

The "Entourage Temp" folder is normally to be found in the "Microsoft
User Data" Folder and it is there the attached files are stored. You
didn't mention if there was such a folder on you HD.

So, is there? If not, try creating a new folder and name it "Entourage
Temp". Might be sufficient.

Reinstalling does probably not affect this folder (or the attachments
would be lost).

Run the "Remove Office" utility. Now, do a drag-and-drop install of Office
and try re-launching Entourage.

Install the latest updates after you do this!

Install the latest updates after you do this!

And (sorry, Diane) after using the Remove Office utility, use the Installer
to reinstall Office. Drag & Drop is not advised. Here are more complete
instructions:

The Remove Office tool is located in the Value Pack folder on the Office X
CD. Install it and run it. Now reinstall Office X using the installer on
the CD do not drag and drop. When you've finished, you'll need to
download (<http://www.microsoft.com/mac/download/>) and install the Office X
10.1.2 updater (plus 10.1.3, but *only* if you use French or Italian
proofing tools).

Before uninstalling Office, you might want to back up various files. See
here for suggestions on what files to back up:

Hope this helps.

These were instruction from MS for FAILED installs. This drag and drop
method also worked a while back when the SR-1 updater failed to install.

If all else fails, try everything. :)

I am hoping you have done this, because if you have not you are going to
kick yourself :) - and Diane - please take note of this because this is the
first thing anyone should try if they get an error like this, or if
Entourage does not respond when the send and receive button is pushed, etc.

This is what you do:

1. Make a copy of your Microsoft office identities folder from your local
user folder that contains your identity for Entourage. Just do a quick
option copy to somewhere else.
2. Find the Entourage App
3. Hold down the option key and double click the entourage app
4. Click "typical rebuild"

Most of the time this will fix your problem. If this does not work - try
the more advanced rebuild.

Good luck
