In summary, I did an export/import but using and Exchange server and thus
have no (or very little) data loss.
-------------------------------------------
I've been suffering from two slow address book problems often reported
here...
- long delay when transitioning from email view. Seems random but frequent.
(15-20 seconds, 2000 contacts)
- poor performance of find/filter function
(8-12 seconds)
This was all with a local ("On this computer") address book AND an Exchange
address book configured through my work server. The Exchange db has been
empty. I've been using my personal IMAP email and local adrsbook as my
default store of names and email.
What I did was move all my contacts over to the Exchange address book. This
does NOT allow groups or your own "My Identity" to be moved. I deleted
everything in my local address book and then copied them back.
Since then, my transition from email to addresses is less than 1 second and
searches are 3-4 seconds. I have not yet had a single instance of slow
performance since.
Hope it helps someone. YMMV.
