Any fix here or on the way for this bug?

I know I¹ve read a thread on this, and I think the thread referred to an
article on the mvps site, but I can¹t find it.

I have my newsgroup message lists set to a custom arrangement:

Group by Subject
Sort groups by Sent (new on top)
Sort items by Sent (old on top)
Default display Expanded

Works great most of the time, and it¹s always manageable even when it screws
up, but this is annoying and happens very often:

I see an item under a group header with a Re: prefix to indicate it¹s
replying within a thread. It will be all by itself with no clue where the
rest of the thread might be.

I click on it.

It disappears.

Under my cursor (usually) appears the whole thread with the item I just
clicked in its proper place. Sometimes I have to hunt for the thread after
the item disappears.

Any hope this is gonna get fixed? Anything to do about it now?

Thanks!

Oh.. Confession time. After complaining bitterly about the bouncing icon, I
did not notice when it stopped bouncing. Just read a notice that it had been
fixed, and now I realize Entourage hasn¹t been driving me wild for some time
now. Thanks to whoever did that.

Best,

- Bill

I think this has something to do with threads with long subject lines that
are split onto separate lines in the message source. I have reported it to
Microsoft and am hopeful that it will be corrected in a future update. Your
request here should be recorded.

This happens for messages with long subject lines that get split in the
message source. The RFC protocol adds a space at the end of the first line
to show that the ext line is a continuation. (Source lines are limited to 80
characters.) Entourage is forgetting to remove the space when reconstituting
the subject lines while the message s still on the server. When you click to
download the message, the space is removed in the downloaded copy of the
cache, so subject-based filtering in Groups suddenly bumps it up to join
previously downloaded messages in that thread, When the groups are sorted by
Sent, like you (and I) do, that can be a very large bump. (If sorted by
subject, it's a very minor bump - that's why we didn't notice it much before
we had these fancy group sortings in 2004).

The developers know about this bug. Hopefully it will be fixed soon.

Thanks, Paul and Mickey!

It¹s not so awful, just a pain.

It¹s also (for some reason) less of a pain now that I know what¹s happening.

Glad to heard they are working on it.
