Any Scripts to Export / Archive Local Mail Folders?

J

JohnnyO

Hi,

Is anyone aware of a script/utility that will export or archive
Entourage local mail folders AND maintain subfolder integrity,
especially:

1) when the main local folder does not have any stored messages but
the subfolder does.
2) will provide a folder structure for nested subfolders?

I tried Berkowitz's Folder Export-Import utility, but it does not seem
to back-up local folders if there is no message in the main. Also,
tried Barry's script and it does MBOX main and local folders--but does
not maintain the directory structure.

Thanks,
John

Try Barry Wainwright's Export Folders freeware

http://scriptbuilders.net/files/exportfolders1.1.html

The script will fail on a folder with corruption. Kind of a neat way to find
corruption.

Hi Diane,

Yes, I've been using this utility per your suggestion a while back.
It would be nice to have a script/utility which, in addition,
maintains the directory/subdirectory structure.

Are you aware of any such animal?

Thanks,
John

Hi JohnnyO,

Re this and your previous post--you want to have annual identities that
maintain your folder structure. Why not just duplicate your current
identity in the Finder, massage the duplicate a bit to get it holding
only what you want, right-click to create archive to save space? Michel
suggested this in the other thread, but I am not sure you realized what
he meant.

Thank You--Almost there. Sounds like duplicating the MUD Main
Identity is the way to go. It maintains the file structure, it can be
switched to as a separate identity, spotlight can index the contents,
and per Michel's email--probably don't have to be concerned about
getting it lite.

Wow--I've been doing that all along except I've been compacting a
backup through the Entourage Utility. If I copy the Main Identity in
MUD--what is the better archival method:

A) Right click to Zip/Archive the file or
B) Open the new copied Identity and File->Export into an .rge file?

Which approach maintains the file structure best? Which approach will
restore to the original Main Identity easier?

Thanks,
John

However, option B is smaller. I would do both. I create an Entourage archive
file every 3 days. Because the files are smaller I can do this. I will
duplicate my Identity at least once a month for archival purposes. Just do a
comparison on size to compare.
