Any way to insert a hyperlink (without displaying http://...)?

Since I use HTML to compose emails, I would expect I could insert <a href>
hyperlinks under such things as an email address or web page reference.

I can¹t though, can I? I¹ve read everything I can find, and there does not
seem to be a way to do it.

Or is there???
