Applying images as backgrounds

How do I take any image or e.g. a photograph and apply it as a background or
slide design in my powerpoints.

Go to View | Master | Slide Master. From the Format Menu, choose Background.
Click the dropdown arrow, choose Fill Effects, go to the Picture tab. Select
your picture and OK your way out. Back in the Background dialog, click
either Apply or Apply to All, depending on if you want to apply the image to
all your slide masters or not.
