I have nearly 12,000 email that need to be archived so that I can gain space
on my primary hard drive. I am totally out of space on my primary HD.
How do I do this? Is there a way to have the emails on another drive?
There are two file formats you can use to export your data. MBOX and
Entourage archive (.rge) file. (However I might suggest you skip down in
this message and try the other large files first since they are quicker and
most likely much larger.)
When you export as .rge file under File --> Export, it gives you the option
to delete after exporting. The only downside of .rge file is it's specific
to Entourage.
MBOX files are generic and can be used on either platform or with any email
client. You would need to do a custom view of the messages you want to
export as MBOX. Drag that folder to the desktop to create the MBOX file. The
scripts that export are blanket export. You would need to delete the
messages after the export manually.
With either method, you will need to run the database utility to Compact the
database. Entourage reuses the space when a message is deleted. Often this
is a good thing, but in your case where you need to regain disk space you'll
need to run compress.

I also suggest you look at other large files like photos, music and movies.
These are often the easiest way to regain space.

WhatSize is a simple tool that allows the user to quickly measure the size
in bytes of a given folder and all subfolders and files within it. You would
be surprised at how many useless files might be laying around on your hard
disks. The files and folders are automatically sorted by size, with the
biggest sizes first
