Archiving Entourage 2001 and X emails

Sorry for the really basic question, but are there any utilities for
creating a searchable archive of Entourage emails (both version 2001
and X), so the emails can be backed up on a seperate hard drive and
retreived later if required?

What I do is just drag the emails or email folders from Entourage to the
hard drive. This creates text files that are easily searched very
quickly using, say, a BBEdit / TextWrangler multi-file search. m.
