Are All Web Authoring Packages as Bad as Frontpage?

OK, so I have a bad attitude with Frontpage. I didn't when I started, but
it has gotten worse the more I have tried to get it to do what I need it to
do.

(1) Frontpage will not change font size and color for a global link bar.
It always wants black lettering. Right click on font, and you can change
away with no results.
(2) It always tries to put annoying buffers between horizontal global link
bar graphics. You can't get one nice contiguous graphic.
(3) Left justifying the text on a vertical navigation link bar, puts the
text right at the edge of the theme graphic, which looks stupid. When you
type in some leading buffer spaces, it takes them out. I don't see any way
to work around this, and why should it have to be a work around anyway?
(4) You change the "Shared Border Properties" to a color, and it shows up in
the Design view, but is back to white when you previewed in the browser.

How can anyone use this program to match a design given to them? This is
horrible.

Start by not using FP themes. It is quite possible to use FP productively
without invoking any of the built-in 'wizards'. In that case, you can do
just about anything you want. A sound knowledge of HTML and CSS is all you
need....

If you are going to limit yourself to "canned" push button web design then you are limited to the
capabilities of those "canned" designs.

If you start from scratch with a new "blank page" and learn to design your own, the possibilities
are endless.

There is not *any* push button web tool that will automatically create a web site.

Like all of the rest, FrontPage is a tool, what you do with it is up to you.
You're the artist, FrontPage is an unending supply of fresh canvass and oils.

You will need to learn how to properly use any tool

See below inline responses for solutions to your "tool problems"

| OK, so I have a bad attitude with Frontpage. I didn't when I started, but

|
| (1) Frontpage will not change font size and color for a global link bar.

Use Format Theme Modify / Customize Text - More Text Styles and select the global button (.mstheme-topbar-font) - Modify - Format -
Font

| (2) It always tries to put annoying buffers between horizontal global link
| bar graphics. You can't get one nice contiguous graphic.

The FP "canned" themes all have "white space" as part of the images used
- you will need to create your own images w/o the white space and Modify the theme to add your images

| (3) Left justifying the text on a vertical navigation link bar, puts the
| text right at the edge of the theme graphic, which looks stupid. When you
| type in some leading buffer spaces, it takes them out. I don't see any way

The only thing you can "buffer" w/ is a valid character - like a . or _
Create your graphics to suit the layout you want and Modify the theme to add your images
- or don't use themes - upgrade to FP 2003 and use Interactive buttons

| (4) You change the "Shared Border Properties" to a color, and it shows up in
| the Design view, but is back to white when you previewed in the browser.

Custom backgrounds on shared borders is only supported on servers running the FP 2002 SE

Stefan,

Thank you. With your help, I was able to get done what I needed.

Where is it documented regarding the Global Link text color
(.mstheme-topbar-font)? I couldn't find anything in the help file.

By the way, even with custom graphics, FP still puts background between
custom graphics on the Global Links. Bug in FP?
