I do not use Entourage, but am trying to help a friend. He wants to know, where emails are stored on the computer? Also, he has been backing up his mac home icon, and is wondering, if his emails can be found in those backups?

Thanks for your help.

The database is stored in the Microsoft User data which you/he will find in his document folder under his user name. He can rebuild is database and the emails will/should reappear.

I am not sure what you mean when you say he has been backing up his "mac home icon," but if he has been backing up his user folder he's in good shape.

once the data is found how does it open. double clicking does not do it

From within Entourage - you rebuild database. Double click on Entourage preferences (menu to the left of file - Entourage) > spotlight > at the bottom you'll see rebuild database.

For the future, there are two ways of backing up folders and subfolders.
(1) File menu - Export to an Entourage archive. It will allow you to select just mail or just calendar or just contacts or just notes - or all together. I back up calendar and contacts nightly - just in case - mail once a week.
(2) slide individual folders to your desktop - Leopard will create a M-Box which contains all your messages in that subfolder.

What are you double clicking on and where is it located?

Entourage expects the Microsoft User Data folder to be in your Documents
folder. For OS X users, that's the Documents folder in your User's folder.

You can have multiple Identities in the Identity folder.
Select Switch Identity (under Entourage in the Menu bar) and see all
Identities listed. If you do not rename when you drag back, it will
overwrite the Identity that is there.
