Are Office suite files written on an IBM pc readable and editable.

I'm thinking of switching from IBM compatible computers to a Power Mac G5's.
Will files written by the IBM compatible be readable and editable (sp) by the
Apple?

I need to clarify my question - These are files that are written by MS Office
suite applications on an IBM compatable and assumes that the Power Mac G5 is
running MS Office suite applications.
