Array formula with lookup

My data is a below:


1/1/04 M H
2/1/04 T F
3/1/04 W H
etc etc


Elsewhere I will have a 2 cells with dates in them and I'm trying t
get excel to count how many "h"'s are within the range of the 2 date
but in column 3.

I can get excel to get the corresponding data from the 1st date but
want it to create a range (based on the dates input by a user) then us
the countif function?

Any help with this would be greatly appreciated.

try (if X1 and X2 store your two dates):
=SUMPRODUCT(--(A1:A1000>=X1),--(A1:A1000<=X2),--(C1:C1000="H"))
