Assigning categories to multiple contacts

I am using either Outlook 2000 or Outlook 2002 on a
contact list in an Exchange 5.5 public folder. I am trying
to modify categories on multiple contacts at the same
time. There seems to be a limit to the number of contacts
that Outlook/Exchange properly "inventories". I.E. it
doesn't show existing categories for the selected
contacts. Also if I modify the categories, it overwrites
any existing categories that were there. Can someone tell
me what the limit is? Is there a fix to eliminate this
limit? Is there a 3rd party app to allow me to modify
categories on large groups of contacts?
