assigning variable value

in a cell i have dde data feeding it it. I am trying in
vb to have a variable equal this cell and i am having
trouble assigning a variable to this cell. First i tried
Dim x as integer and dim x as string equaling this cell
but i am getting debugging errors.

anyone have any ideas???

Suppose the cell is A1. Did you try this?

Dim x
x = Range("A1").Value
