att pop account suddenly won't connect!

Here's a weird one. I am getting the message "connection failure"
suddenly when I try to download my att.net email. This is an old
account and there's not much on it, but precisely because it is old I
like to keep it for those friends that are used to it.

Now why it's weird:

1) I'm still getting email downloaded to my treo. same pop settings.

2) I can get in to the web mail. no password issues.

Att has kicked me back to microsoft, or suggested I use another email
client, which I don't want to do.

This started doing this basically out of the blue yesterday afternoon.

Any thoughts? any help?
