Attachment anomaly

Eddie

I have one workstation running XP Home and Office XP.
Both OS and Office are fully patched. On this
workstation, attachments in POP3 mail is corrupt.

For example, if the attachment is an image, the image
will open in the associated application but will look
like random colored dots. If the attachment is a Word
document, the document contains garbage text.
On the same workstation, using Outlook Express to
download the same e-mails from the same POP3 account
exhibits the same problem.

However, on another workstation running the same OS but
no MS Office, just Outlook Express, the same e-mail
attachments (from the same POP3 account) open perfectly.

This seems to imply that Outlook and Outlook Express use
the same MIME decoding DLL which is apparently not
decoding the MIME attachments correctly, resulting in
corrupt binaries.

I have re-installed Office XP on the problem machine but
the problem persists.

Has anyone else experienced anything remotely similar?

Thanks for any help/suggestions.

Eddie
