attachment file size

When I attach a file that's say 2 MB in size, Entourage ends up sending a 3
MB file. Why is that? When I send a 500K file, it shows up as a 1 MB file
when it's going out. Where is all that extra data coming from? It's making
my files too big.

Entourage 2001 & X round the file sizes that you see in the size column, so
those aren't very accurate. Entourage rounds file sizes that are above 512
KB, so a 520 KB attachment would appear to be 1 MB in Entourage, as would a
1510 KB attachment. Entourage 2004 shows the sizes of e-mails much more
accurately.

Also, remember that the encoding used to transmit the file via e-mail can
inflate the size. If they are too big, you might want to try using the
StuffIt compression option in the "Encode for..." box below the Attachments
list in a message composition window.
