Attachment links lost during Eudora5.1 to Entourage2001 change

Hi,

I followed the standard import protocol described in Entourage 2001 to
transfer my mail from Eudora 5.1. After transfer into Entourage 2001 all my
mails have lost the links to their attachments. Does anybody know why and
perhaps even how it can be fixed?

Thanks

Torsten

Eudora removes attachments from the messages, thus the mail folder, and
provides those "links" instead to to location where they save the
attachments. So when the mail folder is exported as an text file (not quite
a bona fide MBOX file, but close) it no longer has the attachments.
Naturally Entourage doesn't know anything about them since Eudora never
exported them with the export file. (Entourage itself keeps attachments
within the messages and its database.)

Thanks Paul for the explanation why this happens. Is there any way to keep
the attachment links, for example by importing my mail to another program
first and then transfer it to Entourage?

I don't think that any other app would take the trouble to figure out how
Eudora links particular saved attachment files to particular email messages.
It might be worth checking if Netscape 4.x can do this.
